The whole gutter molding installation process can be wrapped up in five quick steps, all of which are laid out below.
Before applying any molding trim, be sure to clean the area. Gutter molding will stick best on a surface free of dirt, dust, road grime, and wax, so be sure to remove any stubborn spots, including leftover adhesive residue.
Inspect the length of the gutter molding to be sure you have enough to finish the job.
Trimming can be done either before installation of while installing to the desired area. If trimming is done before installation measure twice and cut once. Trimming can be done with a good pair or scissors or a razor blade. A razor will give you the best finish on the edges.
If you are using a 3m promoter apply this to the installation surface and allow it to sit for 1-2 minutes before installing the gutter piece. Peel off the backing from molding piece, and begin sticking it to the desired area, working from one side to the other. Use your fingers to push down and smooth out the guard as you go.
Admire your own handiwork and resourcefulness in equipping your Honda, Toyota, Lexus, etc. with gutter molding guards. This might actually be the step that takes the longest. Go ahead. Pat yourself on the back a little longer. You can even add more time to this project by inviting other people to come see what you accomplished. Family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and total strangers passing by are all fair game.
